The Metropolis of Bessarabia will celebrate its centennial on Thursday with a special prayer service at the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Chișinău.
The Divine Liturgy will be presided over by Metropolitan Petru of Bessarabia, with concelebrants including Bishop Antonie of Bălți, Bishop Veniamin of Southern Bessarabia, and Assistant Bishop Nectarie of Bogdania from the Archdiocese of Chișinău.
State officials, members of the academic and cultural communities, and faithful from both sides of the Prut River are expected to attend the anniversary service.
“We warmly and joyfully invite all clergy, monks, nuns, and believers from Bessarabia to join us on this historic day to pray together and give thanks to God for the blessings poured out upon our Church,” reads an announcement from the Metropolis of Bessarabia.
The event aims to honour a century of Romanian Orthodox ministry in Bessarabia, with gratitude for the forebears’ sacrifices and a sense of responsibility for the Church’s present mission.
The Archdiocese of Chișinău was elevated to the rank of Metropolis by Royal Decree No. 1942 on May 4, 1925.
