Patriarch Daniel meets with new French Ambassador to Romania

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel received the Ambassador of France to Romania, His Excellency Nicolas Warnery, on a presentation visit at the Patriarchal Residence on Thursday.

The visit began with a welcoming speech from the Romanian Patriarch, in which he appreciated His Excellency Nicolas Warnery’s rich diplomatic experience.

Additionally, the French Ambassador in Bucharest thanked His Beatitude for the warm welcome and highlighted the ecumenical activity of the Romanian Orthodox Church and His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, also mentioning the efforts to build the National Cathedral, according to a communique by the Department for Interchurch and Interfaith Relations of the Romanian Patriarchate.

During the meeting, discussions were held about the existing relations between France and Romania, highlighted by the large number of young Romanians studying at French universities, as well as the Romanian Orthodox communities, which develop harmonious relationships with other Christian Churches in France.

“In the current geopolitical context marked by military conflicts, both interlocutors expressed their hope that solidarity among European peoples will be cultivated with even more intensity and that democracy, which combines freedom with responsibility and promotes the common good, will be strengthened”, the communique reads.

At the end of the meeting, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel wished His Excellency Nicolas Warnery success at the beginning of his diplomatic mission.

On the occasion of the visit, the Ambassador of France to Romania, His Excellency Nicolas Warnery, offered comments for the Basilica Media Centre about the topics discussed with His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel.

“I was received today by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel. During our discussions, we addressed topics such as the National Salvation Cathedral and the importance and role of the Church in society. We also talked about the political situation at the European level, the future of European society, and the war at the country’s borders. His Beatitude has a long-term vision, both in time and space, which impressed me greatly,” said the Ambassador of France to Romania.
