Archbishop Dorotheos of Avela, Hegumen of the “Gethsemane” Metochion at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, carried in procession on Wednesday morning the icon of the Dormition of the Mother of God. The traditional procession unfolded from the Holy Sepulchre to the Tomb of the Mother of God in the Ghetsemane Garden.
Hagiotaphite hieromonks, monks, nuns and pilgrims accompanied the holy icon at dawn, stopping for short prayers at the Holy Monasteries of Saint Alexander Nevsky, Saint Charalambos, Praetorian, Saint Anna, the First Martyr and Archdeacon Stephen.
The icon of the Dormition was put under a canopy facing “The Jerusalemite” Icon of the Mother of God and it will stay in the Tomb of the Mother of God until September 5, when it shall be returned in procession to the “Gethsemane” Metochion of the Jerusalem Patriarchate.
