7 verses from the Book of Job to meditate on

The Orthodox Church celebrates the Righteous Job the Long-Suffering on Wednesday, May 6. In the context of this day, we have selected a few verses from the Old Testament book that we must meditate on at any time in our lives.

  • Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord (Job 1:21)
  • As long as my breath is in me, And the breath of God in my nostrils, My lips will not speak wickedness, Nor my tongue utter deceit (Job 27:3-4)
  • But as for me, I would seek God, And to God I would commit my cause (Job 5:8)
  • Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects; Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty. For He bruises, but He binds up; He wounds, but His hands make whole (Job 5:17-18)
  • Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace; Thereby good will come to you. Receive, please, instruction from His mouth, And lay up His words in your heart (Job 22:21-22).
  • The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life (Job 33:4).
  • For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth (Job 19:25).
