7 May 1864 – Archpriest and theology professor PETRU BARBU was born in Lugoj, county of Lugoj. Gymnasium studies in Lugoj, Beiuș, Blaj and Brașov, theological studies at the Faculty of Cernăuți – photo – (doctor’s degree in 1891), followed by specialised courses in Pedagogy at the Universities of Graz and Berlin. Professor at the Theological Pedagogical Institute of Caransebeș (1892-1908) – dismissed from the chair in 1908, he was reintegrated in the higher education in 1919 – and rector Editor of the “Foaia diocezană”, deacon (1895), priest (1908) and archpriest (1930), director of the People’s Bank in Caransebeș (1907 -n 1920). He passed away on 7 March 1941, in Bucharest.
