31 March 1904 – Theology professor (not ordained) NICOLAE CHIȚESCU was born in Moreni, county of Dâmbovița. Secondary studies at the “Enăchiță Văcărescu” Secondary School of Târgoviște and “Central” Seminary of Bucharest, followed by the courses of the Faculty of Protestant Theology of Paris (1925 – 1930). In 1937, he was awarded the title of doctor in theology in Bucharest. He was assistant and later on professor, with special stress on Dogmatic and Symbolic Theology, with the Faculty of Theology (1930 – 1948) and the Theological Institute of Bucharest (1948 – 1973). From 1965 – 1969 he was deputy rector of this institution. He participated as official delegate of the Romanian Orthodox Church in many international theological conferences, as well as representative in the commissions of the ecumenical bodies at European and world level. Works: Ioan Mihălcescu, La Theologie Symbolique au point de vue de l’ Eglise Orthodoxe Orientale (traducere, 1932); Redemption in the Holy Scriptures and in the writings of the Holy Fathers (1937); Dogmatic and Symbolic Theology (2 volumes 1958, co-author); from 1935 – 1940, he published, in collaboration with Irineu Mihălcescu and Emilian Vasilescu, several Religion manuals for the gymnasium and secondary school education. He published specialised studies with a diversified thematic (Revelation, Dogma, Holy Trinity, redemption, ecclesiology, symbolic theology, ecumenical theology), reviews, meditations and sermons in the church periodic publications (Romanian Orthodox Church, Theological Studies, orthodoxy, Voice of the Church, Metropolitan See of Moldova and Suceava, Metropolitan See of Banat, Rays of Light). He passed away on 21 July 1991, in Bucharest.
