Apostles’ Fast in 2026 to last 21 days, longest in eight years

The Apostles’ Fast in 2026 will last 21 days, making it the longest in the past eight years. The fast will begin on Monday, 8 June, and end on Saturday, 28 June, on the eve of the feast of the two great Apostles Peter and Paul.

The duration of the Apostles’ Fast varies from year to year depending on the date of Holy Pascha. In 2026, the great feast of the Resurrection of the Lord will be celebrated on April 12, which results in a longer fasting period before the feast of Saints Peter and Paul.

According to the Orthodox calendar, 12 of the 21 fasting days allow fish, making the fast less strict from a dietary perspective.

The Apostles’ Fast, popularly called “St Peter’s Fast”, is established in honour of the two great Apostles of the Saviour, who are models of faith and self-sacrifice for the entire Church.
