The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway at the Romanian Patriarchate

On 15 November 2013, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel received at the Patriarchal Residence, in a visit of presentation, Her Excellency MrsToveBruvikWestberg, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Bucharest.

The Ambassador thanked for the reception and, while appreciating the important role of the Church within the Romanian society, expressed her readiness for cooperation with the Romanian Patriarchate during her diplomatic mission in Romania.

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel emphasized the good relations existing between the Romanian Orthodox Church and the Church of Norway, who cooperated in the past, in developing social projects within the Metropolitanate of Moldavia and Bukovina. The Patriarch of Romania made a brief presentation to Mrs Ambassador about various pastoral, social, educational and cultural activities of the Romanian Patriarchate within the Romaniansociety. In this regard, His Beatitude showed the effortsof the Romanian Orthodox Church to support and intensify its social projects and educational programs for children and young people, as well as for the disadvantaged ones, especially in this time of economic crisis. His Beatitude mentioned the cooperation of the Romanian Patriarchate with other religious denominations in our country, forming the Consultative Council of Religious Denominations in Romania.

During the meeting, there was adiscussion about the possibility that the project of the Archdiocese of Bucharest for the consolidation of CăldărușaniMonastery, a monument of the eighteenth century, be fundedfrom the Norwegian EEA Grants project funds. Ambassador ToveBruvikWestbergexpressed her intention to support the request for funding from the Norwegian authorities in order to consolidate and restore this monastic settlement of invaluable cultural, architectural and patrimonial value.
