Patriarch Irinej of Serbia reposed in the Lord on Friday morning at 07:07 AM. He was hospitalized in the “Karaburma” Military Medical Center in Belgrade.
Patriarch Irinej was born on 28 August 1930 in Vidova near Čačak, in Serbia.
In October 1959, after graduating the Orthodox Theology Faculty in Belgrade, Patriarch Germanos of Serbia tonsured him as a monk at Rakovica Monastery.
On July 14, 1974 he was ordained to the Episcopate of Moravica and was appointed as Patriarchal Auxiliary Bishop.
In 1975 he was elected Bishop of Nis and in January 2010 the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church elected him Archbishop of Peć, Metropolitan of Belgrade-Karlovci and Patriarch of Serbia.
