Patriarch Daniel welcomes new Armenian Ambassador to Romania at his patriarchal residence

Tuesday, 27 February 2018, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, welcomed at the patriarchal residence His Excellency Sergey Minasyan, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Romania, and His Grace Bishop Datev Hagopian, Head of the Armenian Church in Romania.

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel congratulated the new ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Bucharest and wished him a successful diplomatic mission in Romania.

The Ambassador thanked for the honour of being received and conveyed the greetings of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of Armenians. He also expressed his appreciation for the good ties between the two countries, expressing his desire for their strengthening, especially of the spiritual and cultural relations. His Excellency noted that the Armenian community in Romania is an ethnical, religious minority that has received support and a favourable context to keep its identity since the fifteenth century.

Ambassador Sergey Minasyan thanked the Romanian people and the Romanian Orthodox Church for their fellowship with the Armenian community in Romania and pointed to the important and balanced role played by the Orthodox Church in Romanian society.

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel stressed the importance of developing joint projects regarding youth activities, noting that young people are not only the Church’s future, but also its present.

At the end of the meeting, the two parties expressed their common hope to launch a Bucharest direct airline route to Erevan, thus facilitating pilgrimages to places of worship in Armenia and Romania.
