New Ukrainian Ambassador to Romania Oleksandr Bankov meets with Romanian Patriarch Daniel

Ambasadorul Ucrainei la Patriarhia Română (4)

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel welcomed Thursday, 1 March 2018, at his patriarchal residence His Excellency the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to Romania Oleksandr Bankov.

His Beatitude appreciated the good ties between the two nations and wished for their cultivation and strengthening. In this context, the Patriarch pointed to the spiritual unity of the two countries reflected in the example of Saint Paisius Velichkovsky of Neamț and Saint Peter Mogila, Metropolitan of Kiev. The contribution of these saints to the spiritual renewal of their times represented a spiritual response to the Western secularization initiated by the Age of Enlightenment.

The Patriarch of Romania also appreciated the importance of pilgrimages to Ukraine carried out by the Basilica Travel Agency, which facilitate the mutual knowledge of the believers of the two Churches.

Ambassador Oleksands Bankov thanked for being received and pointed out the good relations between the two neighbouring countries, noting that the Ukrainian minority in Romania enjoys a good coexistence with the Romanian people. In this regard, the Romanian Orthodox Church plays a very important role.

The Ukrainian Ambassador recalled the difficulties that Ukraine is facing both at political and church level.

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel extended best wishes for good health and great luck to the new Ambassador of Ukraine to Bucharest.
