Involvement in Developing the Rural Community

Today, 1 November 2012, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church met, in Europa Christiana hall of the Patriarchate Palace, the priests of the rural parishes and the representatives of the National Network for Rural Development.

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel encouraged the priests to involve in this programme that can bring about the development of the rural community: “The work of the Church must be adapted too to the present need and this thing should be done in cooperation with the state, local and central authorities. This is why the perspective on the improvement of the social life in the country is not a matter of fashion, but a must. We refer to the need to set up social or parochial canteens, old people’s homes, and to improve the provision of water and heating. There is a chance in the present European programmes, but we must be better organized to be able to get them. The association of several monasteries and parishes to develop a programme in favour of the rural community is a must”.

The first agricultural cooperative has been operating within the Archdiocese of Bucharest since 2008. It is named “The Lord’s Vineyard” and it has been formed merging three vineyards lots in Prahova county.
