Feast of Saint Demetrios the New, Protector of Bucharest: Schedule of Events

The traditional pilgrimage organized every year by the Romanian Patriarchate and the Archdiocese of Bucharest on the Feast of Saint Demetrios the New, Protector of Bucharest, celebrated on Oct. 27, will take place on October 25-29, 2018, according to the following schedule:

Thursday, October 25, the Path of the Saints Procession will begin at 12.00 p.m., when the icon and holy relics of Saint Demetrios the New will be carried in procession from the Patriarchal Cathedral, down the Queen Mary Ave and to the base of the Patriarchate’s Hill.

At the same time, the icon and holy relics of Saint Callinicus of Cernica will be carried in procession from St Spyridon Metropolitan Cathedral, on Serban Voda Str., Bibescu Voda Str., and to the Patriarchate’s Hill.

At 12.30 p.m., the clergy and faithful will be welcomed at the Patriarchal Cathedral by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel.

Next, the Saints’ holy relics and icons will be enshrined at the baldachin on the Patriarchate’s Hill and will be available for veneration until Monday, October 29.

On Friday, October 26, 2018, on the feast day of the Holy Great Martyr Demetrios the Myrrh-Gusher, the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at the outdoor altar next to the Patriarchal Cathedral.

On Saturday, October 27, 2018, on the feast day of Saint Demetrios the New, Protector of Bucharest, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of Romania will preside over the Divine Liturgy at the outdoor altar, having as concelebrants hierarchs, priests and deacons.

On Sunday, October 28, 2018, on the feast day of Metropolitan Saint Hyacinthus of Vicina, the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at the Patriarchal Cathedral beginning at 9.30 a.m.

On Monday, October 29, 2018, the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at the Patriarchal Cathedral. Following the Divine Liturgy, the reliquary containing the holy relics of Saint Callinicus will be returned to Cernica Monastery.
