6 May 1992 – OREST BUCEVSCHI, professor of theology and deacon, passed away. Studies at the Secondary School of Câmpulung Moldovenesc (1908 – 1916). He studied at the Faculty of Theology of Cernăuți (1918 – 1922), which awarded him the doctor’s degree, and at the Faculty of Philology, branch of Classic Languages, and graduated in 1924; specialised studies at the Faculties of Catholic and Protestant Theology in Cluj (1924 – 1937). Then, he was professor of Morals at the Faculty of Theology of Cernăuți (1937 – 1948); refugee for several years at Suceava, continuing at the same chair at the University Theological Institute of Bucharest (1948 – 1962).

Works: he published tens of studies, especially of Moral Theology, among which: Ancient sin (1934); Intolerance and Tolerance of the Church (1938); Love for one’s neighbour (Candela, 1939-1941 and 1946, then in brief 1947); many other studies after 1948 in the magazines “Studii teologice”, “Glasul Bisericii”, “Mitropolia Moldovei și Sucevei”, “Mitropolia Olteniei” etc. He is co-author of the book “Teaching of Christian Orthodox Faith” (Bucharest, 1952 and other editions), as well as of the university manual “Moral Orthodox Theology” (2 volumes, 1979 – 1980 and 2nd edition, 2003).
