{"id":585140,"date":"2026-08-19T10:43:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T07:43:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=585140"},"modified":"2026-08-19T10:43:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T07:43:11","slug":"jerusalem-patriarchate-2000-anniversary-christ-baptism-2030","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/jerusalem-patriarchate-2000-anniversary-christ-baptism-2030\/","title":{"rendered":"Jerusalem Patriarchate prepares for 2,000th anniversary of Christ\u2019s Baptism in 2030"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem discussed preparations for events marking the 2,000th anniversary of the Lord&#8217;s Baptism in 2030.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The hierarchs, meeting under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, reviewed plans on Thursday for a series of events along the River Jordan highlighting the anniversary&#8217;s historical and spiritual significance.<\/p>\n<h2>Baptism Site at the centre of preparations<\/h2>\n<p>His Beatitude stressed the importance of the inauguration of the <a href=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/king-abdullah-patriarch-theophilos-orthodox-university-baptism-site\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Orthodox University<\/a> at the Site of the Baptism of the Lord.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.jerusalem-patriarchate.info\/synodical-decisions\/decisions-of-the-holy-synod-6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Patriarchate of Jerusalem<\/a>, the institution is intended to serve as a forum for dialogue and encounter between Churches, peoples and cultures through theological education and academic research.<\/p>\n<p>The Patriarch of Jerusalem also highlighted the Jordanian state&#8217;s role in the project and the need to support the university\u2019s academic, theological, and cultural development. The institution is expected to help strengthen Jordan\u2019s spiritual identity as the land of the Baptism of the Lord and as a country of coexistence between communities.<\/p>\n<p>The Holy Synod expressed its gratitude to King Abdullah II of Jordan and the <a href=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/jordan-develop-jesus-baptism-site-2000-anniversary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jordanian authorities<\/a> for their support for preparations for the 2030 commemoration and for their care for the Holy Places.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, the hierarchs also examined the administrative, ecclesiastical and pastoral affairs of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, with particular attention to the difficulties faced by parishes under its jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>Photo: Facebook \/ Jerusalem Patriarchate<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem discussed preparations for events marking the 2,000th anniversary of the Lord&#8217;s Baptism in 2030.
