Basilica.ro, the official news agency of the Romanian Patriarchate, marks its 18th anniversary on Tuesday since publishing its first news report online, an event that marked the beginning of its editorial activity.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Basilica News Agency is part of the Basilica Media Centre of the Romanian Patriarchate, established on October 27, 2007, at the initiative of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel. The website was officially launched, and its first journalistic materials were published on June 16, 2008.<\/p>\n

In its early years, the platform focused on centralising and promoting information published by the dioceses of the Romanian Patriarchate. Over time, its editorial activity expanded steadily, with increasing emphasis on producing original journalistic content for both Orthodox faithful and the wider public interested in Church life.<\/p>\n

A significant milestone in the agency\u2019s development came in 2016, when the website adopted a new visual identity and implemented an editorial strategy tailored to the digital environment. That same year, its original motto, \u201cThe Good News Shared with Everyone,\u201d evolved into the expression that continues to define the newsroom\u2019s mission today: \u201cThe Good To Know.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mission in Church and Society<\/h2>\n

Over the years, Basilica.ro has strengthened its position within Romania\u2019s media landscape, becoming one of the country\u2019s leading sources of religious news. Its reports are regularly cited by national media outlets, publications, and media institutions abroad.<\/p>\n

Press photography and photojournalism hold a special place in the agency\u2019s work. Images captured at Church events complement written reporting and provide audiences with an authentic and accessible perspective on the life of the Church.<\/p>\n

Through its English-language edition, Basilica.ro also promotes Romanian Orthodoxy internationally and facilitates dialogue and communication with other sister Orthodox Churches.<\/p>\n

Today, the Basilica News Agency is active across major digital platforms and social media networks, offering content in Romanian<\/a> and English<\/a> on Facebook, Instagram<\/a> and X<\/a>; current news updates in Romanian via WhatsApp<\/a> and Telegram<\/a>; and multimedia content through its newsletter<\/a>, as well as its YouTube<\/a> and Pinterest<\/a> channels.<\/p>\n

Eighteen years after publishing its first news report, the Basilica News Agency continues its mission of reflecting the life of the Church and providing the public with relevant information about the activities of the Romanian Patriarchate, its dioceses and Orthodox communities in Romania and throughout the diaspora.<\/p>\n
