\u201cWe are blessed with this gift,\u201d Bishop Galaction of Alexandria and Teleorman said on Wednesday as the reliquary containing the honourable skull of Saint George was welcomed at Pantocrator Monastery in southern Romania.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The relic was brought from Mount Athos by a delegation from Xenophontos Monastery led by Archimandrite Alexios, the monastery\u2019s abbot.<\/p>\n

Spiritual consolation and sanctification<\/h2>\n

Bishop Galaction stressed the event’s uniqueness. \u201cThis is a moment few Christians can experience in their lifetime \u2014 to stand before the earthly remains of a saint who sacrificed his life for God,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He described the presence of Saint George\u2019s relics as a blessing for the whole community, given \u201cfor our spiritual consolation and sanctification.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo touch the holy relics with reverence means drawing near to one who was perfectly united with God. Through him, it means touching the holiness of Christ Himself,\u201d the bishop said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not mere spectators at a religious event; we are participants in a mystery, in a spiritual encounter with the Holy Great Martyr George, with his prayers and intercession before God for us,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Call to prayer and witness<\/h2>\n

The bishop explained the veneration of relics as more than honouring mortal remains, saying they are \u201cabodes of divine grace\u201d through which God works in the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cSaint Basil the Great reminds us that the bodies of martyrs are sanctified through their sacrifice, by the blood they shed for Christ,\u201d he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He urged the faithful to approach the reliquary in prayer.<\/p>\n

\u201cPray with open hearts; ask the saint\u2019s intercession for your family, for our country and for peace in the world.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cHe is a swift helper \u2014 as Saint Stephen the Great himself called him \u2014 and leaves no prayer of faith unanswered.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bishop Galaction said Saint George\u2019s witness remains relevant today, calling believers \u201cto be victors not through sword and spear, but through prayer, repentance and love for God and neighbour.\u201d<\/p>\n

Blessing for the Romanian people<\/h2>\n

Archimandrite Alexios praised the devotion of Romanian believers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am deeply moved by your reverence and piety. I urge you to venerate the head of the Holy Great Martyr George, which is a source of grace and blessings,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a special blessing that these holy relics have come from the Holy Mountain to bless the Romanian people and the faithful who venerate them. Offer your prayers like incense of gratitude to Saint George, and you will receive grace.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The abbot also called for a life of faith and repentance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough our prayers let us show repentance and our decision to become more faithful to our Christian values, following the example of the saints who shed their blood for the love of Christ.\u201d<\/p>\n

He concluded by recalling his ties to Romania.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the third time I have been in Romania. The first was in 1993, only a few years after the fall of communism. God made me worthy to meet Saint Cleopas Ilie at Sih\u0103stria. I confessed to him and we spoke of many spiritual matters.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The reception of Saint George\u2019s honourable skull was broadcast live by Trinitas TV, followed by a live vigil service from Pantocrator Monastery.<\/p>\n
