The Basilica News Agency has published in English the digital booklet \u201cSynaxis of the Holy Romanian Women\u201d, dedicated to the women saints whose canonisation was proclaimed<\/a> on 6 February at the Patriarchal Cathedral.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The publication is prefaced by excerpts from an address<\/a> delivered by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of Romania on the first day of the year, when the 2026 Solemn and Commemorative Year in the Romanian Patriarchate was inaugurated, dedicated to the pastoral care of the Christian family and to Romanian women who lived holy lives.<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout Christian history, holy women have shown that the path to holiness does not depend on belonging to a particular social category, but on the cooperation of the human person with divine grace,\u201d the patriarch said at the time.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

These new Romanian holy women<\/a> show us that the Romanian Orthodox Church has always been blessed with faithful and devout women who fought the good fight of faith and completed their earthly journey in holiness (cf. 2 Timothy 4:7), in many forms of service: mothers whose children became saints, women who sanctified their lives through love and sacrifice within the family, the ecclesial community and society, martyrs who defended the Orthodox faith with their blood, monastics who laboured in humility, fasting and unceasing prayer in monasteries and in the wilderness, women confessors who endured persecution for the name of Christ, and the wives of princes and rulers who supported the Church and the Romanian people.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The 16 Romanian women of holy life canonised last year by the Holy Synod are presented in the booklet in three categories: women from among the faithful, noblewomen or princesses, and venerable monastic mothers.<\/p>\n

Each saint is accompanied by an icon and, where available, a photograph, alongside a concise profile outlining her life.<\/p>\n

Reactions to the concept and the high-quality graphic design have already appeared.<\/p>\n

In an article<\/a> published by the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Italy, the booklet is described as \u201can outstanding editorial work dedicated to honouring the female figures who have shaped the spiritual history of the Romanian people\u201d and \u201ca useful tool for the catechesis of young people and adults in the diaspora context.\u201d<\/p>\n
