{"id":562672,"date":"2026-03-16T10:52:47","date_gmt":"2026-03-16T08:52:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=562672"},"modified":"2026-03-16T10:52:47","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T08:52:47","slug":"south-korean-medical-student-baptised-orthodox-romania","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/south-korean-medical-student-baptised-orthodox-romania\/","title":{"rendered":"South Korean medical student baptised into Orthodox Church in Romania"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Kim Hyeonwoo, a 25-year-old medical student from South Korea, was <a href=\"https:\/\/episcopiahusilor.ro\/un-tanar-din-coreea-de-sud-fost-botezat-credinta-ortodoxa-parohia-gherghesti\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">baptised<\/a> into the Orthodox faith last Thursday at a church in Vaslui County, in eastern Romania.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The sacrament was officiated by Archpriest Andrei Mereu\u021b\u0103, dean of B\u00e2rlad, while the young man\u2019s sponsors were Fr Sabin Apopei and his wife Maria, who guided him on the path of discovering the Orthodox faith.<\/p>\n<p>The newly baptised Christian, Lazarus, comes from a family of doctors and said he was deeply impressed by the depth of the faith and the beauty of Romanian Orthodox traditions.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHe first entered an Orthodox church last year during the Pascha service and was struck by the atmosphere of prayer and the beauty of the chanting.
