{"id":558031,"date":"2026-02-03T15:54:12","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T13:54:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=558031"},"modified":"2026-02-03T15:54:12","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T13:54:12","slug":"orthodox-youth-church-living-present-uk-archbishop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/orthodox-youth-church-living-present-uk-archbishop\/","title":{"rendered":"Orthodox youths are the Church\u2019s living present, not only its future, says UK&#8217;s Romanian Archbishop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u201cYoung people are not only the future of the Church; they are its living present,\u201d said His Eminence Atanasie, Romanian Orthodox Archbishop of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, in his <a href=\"https:\/\/roarch.org.uk\/ro\/tinerii-inima-vie-intre-dor-si-speranta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">message for International Orthodox Youth Day<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Archbishop expressed his gratitude to Orthodox youth, especially those living outside their home countries.<\/p>\n<p>Young people in the diaspora experience a complex reality. \u201cFor many of them, the journey of the diaspora begins early: new schools, fragile friendships, unspoken questions and a longing for home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are the generation learning to live between different languages, cultures and rhythms, yet perhaps more than ever they are searching for a meaning that does not fade,\u201d His Eminence said.<\/p>\n<h2>The Church and young people<\/h2>\n<p>In this journey, Archbishop Atanasie underlined that the Church becomes a genuine place of belonging for young people.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe Church often becomes the place where the heart gathers together, where you are not a stranger, where your name is spoken with affection, and your joy is truly shared.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Within the Church, young people find peace in Christ and the authentic meaning of life:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cYoung people are not looking for reay-made formulas, but for authenticity. Not lofty speeches, but a living witness. They want to know that Christ is not distant from their concrete lives, but present in their daily choices, struggles and hopes.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Young people, a living bridge between generations<\/h2>\n<p>The Romanian Archbishop of Great Britain and Northern Ireland also highlighted the particular role of young people in the diaspora.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the diaspora, young people are often a living bridge between generations \u2013 between parents who carry the longing of departure and children who are already growing up in a different world,\u201d His Eminence said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey can become translators of the faith, not only through words, but through gestures, chant, service, volunteering and, above all, friendship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/international-orthodox-youth-day-the-church-is-more-dynamic-through-its-young-people\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Orthodox Youth Day<\/a> is observed annually on 2 February.
