{"id":557147,"date":"2026-01-27T12:51:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T10:51:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=557147"},"modified":"2026-01-27T12:51:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T10:51:10","slug":"archbishop-anastasios-albania-one-year-memorial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/archbishop-anastasios-albania-one-year-memorial\/","title":{"rendered":"Archbishop Anastasios of Albania prayerfully remembered at Tirana Cathedral one year after his passing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Archbishop Anastasios of Albania was <a href=\"https:\/\/orthodoxalbania.org\/2020\/en\/2026\/01\/25\/one-year-memorial-of-the-repose-of-the-blessed-archbishop-anastasios\/#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prayerfully remembered<\/a> on Sunday at the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Tirana, one year after his passing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The memorial service was led by the Primate of the Albanian Orthodox Church, Archbishop John, together with members of the Holy Synod.<\/p>\n<p>Archbishop John stressed that the annual commemoration is a spiritual necessity \u2014 an opportunity to pause, reflect, and give thanks to God for all that has been received.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe remembrance of Archbishop Anastasios of blessed memory is not a nostalgic return to the past, but a conscious choice to keep alive the legacy he entrusted to us,\u201d Archbishop John said.<\/p>\n<p>Following the Divine Liturgy, a Trisagion service was also held in the crypt where the former Primate of the Albanian Orthodox Church is buried.<\/p>\n<h2>Archbishop Anastasios Yannoulatos<\/h2>\n<p>His Beatitude Anastasios Yannoulatos was born on 4 November 1929 in Piraeus, Greece.<\/p>\n<p>He led the Orthodox Church of Albania from 1992, during a critical period of post-communist reconstruction. Under his <a href=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/solemn-meeting-of-the-holy-synod-hb-anastasios-about-the-church-of-albania-the-terrible-trials-made-it-look-like-desolate-land\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">leadership<\/a>, religious life in Albania was substantially reorganised, with theological seminaries established and wide-ranging social programmes launched, leaving a significant impact on Albanian society.<\/p>\n<p>Before becoming Archbishop of Tirana, Durr\u00ebs and All Albania, he pursued a distinguished academic career as Professor Emeritus of the History of Religions at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.<\/p>\n<p>Archbishop Anastasios <a href=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/archbishop-anastasios-of-albania-reposes-in-the-lord-aged-95\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passed away<\/a> on 25 January 2025 at the age of 95.<\/p>\n<p>Following his death, Metropolitan John Pelushi of Kor\u00e7\u00eb was <a href=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/patriarch-daniel-sends-a-congratulatory-message-on-the-election-of-the-new-archbishop-of-albania\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">elected<\/a> Archbishop of Tirana, Durr\u00ebs and All Albania.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fkoash1991%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0m7jc6Ry2uNVvWaAsJsuiSXFChbk59EEixjqGdeSbSWcxAAGSULqugH9bz9VBGWS1l&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"793\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Photo: Church of Albania<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Archbishop Anastasios of Albania was prayerfully remembered on Sunday at the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Tirana, one year after his passing.
