\u201cWithout united families there can be no strong nation, and without an awareness of national unity there can be no shared future,\u201d Assistant Bishop Teofil of Trotu\u0219 said<\/a> on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The assistant bishop of the Archdiocese of Roman and Bac\u0103u led a Te Deum service at the Archdiocesan Cathedral in Roman, marking 167 years since the Union of the Romanian Principalities.<\/p>\n

Unification and the family<\/h2>\n

Assistant Bishop Teofil recalled the 1859 Union and highlighted its connection to the theme of family.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year, the Holy Synod of our Orthodox Church has devoted its full attention to the Christian family<\/a>. The family cannot live in peace and happiness if the great family of our nation is not well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn this day of national celebration, as we mark 167 years since the fundamental Union, I urge all my spiritual sons and daughters in the Archdiocese of Roman and Bac\u0103u\u2014Romanians and Christians alike\u2014not to forget the ideals in which the fathers of this nation believed and for which they fought.\u201d<\/p>\n

The commemorations concluded with a concert of patriotic songs performed by the \u201cDiaconia\u201d Choir of the Archdiocesan Cathedral in Roman.<\/p>\n
