As the National Cathedral nears its consecration, this is a fitting moment to present the main coordinators and builders of this emblematic place of worship for our nation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The construction of the National Cathedral has been the fruit of a collaborative effort involving architects, project managers, specialized consultants, construction firms, and coordinators appointed by the Romanian Patriarchate.<\/p>\n

In anticipation of the consecration, the Cultural Department of the Archdiocese of Bucharest has prepared several flyers \u2014 available both in print and digital formats \u2014 detailing the chronology of the cathedral\u2019s construction, the team overseeing the works, the modern building techniques used, as well as lesser-known facts about the cathedral\u2019s architectural features.<\/p>\n

The Main Coordinators and Builders of the National Cathedral<\/strong><\/h3>\n

His Beatitude Patriarch DANIEL<\/strong> is the providential founder who fulfilled the centuries-old aspiration of the Romanian people for the building of the Romanian People\u2019s Salvation Cathedral, a symbol of Orthodox faith and national conscience. He decisively coordinated the colossal effort of constructing this sacred edifice, mobilising resources and energies with remarkable tenacity.<\/p>\n

1) The Coordination Team of the Works on behalf of the Romanian Patriarchate:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fr. NICOLAE CR\u00ceNGA\u0218U<\/strong>, Patriarchal Counsellor and Coordinator of the Department for Monuments and Church Buildings of the Romanian Patriarchate. He graduated from the University-level Theological Institute in Bucharest (1987) and obtained his PhD in Theology from Babe\u0219-Bolyai<\/em> University in Cluj-Napoca (2004). He serves as parish priest of Saint Bessarion<\/em> Parish in Bucharest, Sector II Deanery, and has held various positions in ecclesiastical administration.<\/p>\n

PETRE CHIU\u0162\u0102<\/strong>, Construction Engineer, Patriarchal Counsellor within the Department for Monuments and Church Buildings of the Romanian Patriarchate. He graduated from the Faculty of Hydraulic Structures within the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest (1995). Since August 2010, he has worked as a site supervisor and technical manager.<\/p>\n

FLORIN POPESCU-VLAD<\/strong>, Construction Engineer, Patriarchal Counsellor within the Department for Monuments and Church Buildings of the Romanian Patriarchate. He graduated from the Faculty of Building Services within the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest (1992). He had a dual involvement in the project of the National Cathedral: initially, as Site Manager on behalf of the company Bog\u2019Art S.R.L. (2010\u20132013) for the structural framework, and later, from April 2014, as Technical Supervisor on behalf of the Romanian Patriarchate.<\/p>\n

2) Designers<\/strong><\/p>\n

Arch. NICOLAE VL\u0102DESCU<\/strong> (16 May 1927 \u2013 March 2014), graduate of the \u201cIon Mincu\u201d<\/em> Institute of Architecture (1953), PhD in Architecture (1978), member of the National Commission for Historic Monuments, and associate lecturer at the \u201cIon Mincu\u201d<\/em> Institute of Architecture. He coordinated large-scale projects such as: the general restoration and extension of the Cotroceni Palace, the extension of the Snagov Palace, the restoration of the National Museum of Art of Romania, the restoration of the Cantacuzino Palace, and the rebuilding of the Darvari Skete. He was awarded the National Order \u201cFor Merit\u201d<\/em>, Knight rank, for his contribution to the field of architecture.<\/p>\n

Arch. CONSTANTIN AM\u00c2IEI<\/strong>, member of the Order of Architects of Romania (Bac\u0103u\u2013Neam\u021b branch), member of the Union of Architects of Romania, and the Register of Urban Planners of Romania, is the coordinator of the design office Vanel Exim SRL, which won the competition in June 2010 for the design of the National Cathedral. Vanel Exim has also carried out the design of several landmark buildings in Bac\u0103u, including the Courthouse, the County Hospital, Arena Mall, George Bacovia<\/em> University, and the Ascension<\/em> of the Lord Cathedral.<\/p>\n

Prof. Eng. Dr. CONSTANTIN PAVEL<\/strong> (6 July 1935 \u2013 24 June 2020), graduate of the Bucharest Institute of Civil Engineering (1959), PhD in Civil Engineering (1974), professor in the Department of Reinforced Concrete Structures at the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest (1959\u20132005), doctoral supervisor and Dean of the Faculty of Civil, Industrial and Agricultural Constructions (1984\u20132000). He served as President of the Committees for the Certification of Technical Experts and Project Verifiers within the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Tourism.<\/p>\n

Prof. Eng. \u0218TEFAN ST\u0102NESCU<\/strong> (6 June 1948 \u2013 22 October 2020), graduate of the Faculty of Building Services of the Bucharest Institute of Civil Engineering (1971), lecturer in the same faculty within the Department of Thermo-Hydraulic Installations (1971\u20132008), PhD in Engineering from the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest (1988), founding member of the Association of Installation Engineers of Romania. He designed and executed the installations of the National Cathedral and authored over 50 studies and technical projects, as well as more than 40 scientific works in the field of installations.<\/p>\n

Prof. Eng. DAN IONESCU<\/strong>, distinguished university professor, whose expertise was essential in ensuring the durability and safety of Cathedral\u2019s installations.<\/p>\n

3) Project Managers<\/strong><\/p>\n

Franco Sticher<\/strong>, architect-engineer, graduate of the University of Fine Arts, Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, Hamburg (1973), technical expert with extensive experience.<\/p>\n

Andreas Hauschild<\/strong>, graduate of the Technical College of Koblenz, Germany; project manager with extensive experience in coordinating complex, large-scale construction projects both in Romania and internationally (Germany and the United Kingdom). Between July 2012 and December 2013, he served as Project Director on behalf of the Romanian Patriarchate for the construction of the National Cathedral.<\/p>\n

4) Specialist Consultant<\/strong><\/p>\n

Eng. Eduard Antohie<\/strong>, PhD in the management of production systems in construction (1996), Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Concrete, Materials, Technology and Management within the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Building Services, \u201cGheorghe Asachi\u201d<\/em> Technical University of Ia\u0219i. He is the author of numerous works on the economic and managerial aspects of construction projects and has extensive experience as a project manager and site supervisor.<\/p>\n

5) Construction Companies<\/strong><\/p>\n

SC Bog\u2019Art SRL<\/strong>, founded in 1991, is one of the largest and most respected construction companies with wholly Romanian capital, recognised for delivering some of the most complex and emblematic infrastructure and building projects in Romania. The Bog\u2019Art<\/em> group includes divisions specialised in project management, fa\u00e7ades, prefabricated and aluminium production, thus covering the entire building cycle. Bog\u2019Art<\/em> executed the infrastructure of the National Cathedral: it built the raft foundation and the reinforced concrete structural framework of the edifice up to ground level, a work of exceptional technical complexity.<\/p>\n

SC Strabag SRL<\/strong> is the Romanian subsidiary of the European construction giant Strabag SE, headquartered in Austria, a market leader in Central and Eastern Europe. The company, one of the strongest players in the Romanian construction sector, benefits from the expertise, financial resources, and advanced technology of its parent group, being renowned for undertaking highly complex projects in diverse fields: transport infrastructure (motorways, railways), civil and industrial buildings, and special projects. Strabag executed the superstructure<\/strong> of the National Cathedral \u2013 the visible part of the edifice. This included the erection of the massive walls, vaults, domes, and the main dome, a remarkable engineering achievement given the dimensions and seismic requirements of the construction.<\/p>\n

6) Historical Research<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prof. Eng. Nicolae Noica<\/strong> (b. 7 July 1943), graduate of the Faculty of Civil, Industrial and Agricultural Engineering, Bucharest Institute of Civil Engineering (1969). He served as design engineer at the Research and Technological Design Institute for Machine-Building Construction (1969\u20131978), Chief State Inspector at the State Inspectorate for Construction Quality (1990\u20131995), and Minister of Public Works and Spatial Planning (1996\u20132000). He is Associate Professor at the Technical University of Civil Engineering, Bucharest, and Director of the Library of the Romanian Academy. He is an Honorary Member of the Romanian Academy, a member of the National Commission for Historical Monuments, Ensembles and Sites, and of the Romanian Society for Construction Quality.       Prof. Ing. \u0218TEFAN ST\u0102NESCU<\/strong> (6 giugno 1948-22 ottobre 2020), laureato presso la Facolt\u00e0 di Impiantistica dell’Istituto di Costruzioni di Bucarest (1971) e docente della stessa facolt\u00e0, presso il Dipartimento di Impiantistica Termoidraulica della Facolt\u00e0 di Impiantistica, tra il 1971 e il 2008, Dottorato di Ricerca in Ingegneria presso l’Universit\u00e0 Tecnica delle Costruzioni di Bucarest (1988), membro fondatore dell’Associazione degli Ingegneri Installatori della Romania; ha progettato e realizzato gli impianti della Cattedrale Nazionale, \u00e8 autore di oltre 50 studi e progetti specializzati e di oltre 40 articoli scientifici nel campo degli impianti.<\/p>\n

Bog’Art<\/em> ha realizzato l’infrastruttura della Cattedrale Nazionale<\/em>: ha creato le fondamenta e la struttura portante in cemento armato dell’edificio fino al piano terra, un’opera di eccezionale complessit\u00e0 tecnica.<\/p>\n

      SC STRABAG SRL<\/em><\/strong> \u00e8 la filiale romena del colosso europeo delle costruzioni Strabag SE, con sede in Austria, leader nel mercato delle costruzioni nell’Europa centrale e orientale. L’azienda, uno dei principali attori del mercato edile romeno, che beneficia delle conoscenze, delle risorse finanziarie e della tecnologia avanzata del gruppo madre, \u00e8 rinomata per aver affrontato progetti altamente complessi in vari settori: infrastrutture di trasporto (autostrade, ferrovie), edifici civili e industriali, progetti speciali. Strabag ha realizzato la sovrastruttura della Cattedrale Nazionale<\/em>, la parte visibile dell’edificio. Questo ha incluso la costruzione delle imponenti mura, delle volte, delle cupole e della guglia principale, un’impresa ingegneristica notevole, considerando le dimensioni e i requisiti sismici della costruzione.<\/p>\n
