{"id":536734,"date":"2025-08-05T15:27:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-05T12:27:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=536734"},"modified":"2025-08-05T15:27:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-05T12:27:10","slug":"microsoft-notre-dame-cathedral-ai-digital-replica","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/microsoft-notre-dame-cathedral-ai-digital-replica\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft to digitally recreate Notre-Dame Cathedral using AI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris will be digitally recreated using artificial intelligence, U.S. tech giant Microsoft announced through its president, Brad Smith.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The project will be developed by Microsoft\u2019s AI for Good division in partnership with French start-up Iconem and the French Ministry of Culture, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/next\/2025\/07\/21\/microsoft-to-make-notre-dame-digital-twin-and-boost-its-european-languages-for-its-ai-mode\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Euronews<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative aims to produce a digital \u201cclone\u201d of the iconic structure, allowing people from around the world to explore Notre-Dame virtually.<\/p>\n<p>According to Brad Smith, the project will take at least one year, during which IT specialists will scan every square centimetre of the cathedral to build an accurate digital replica.<\/p>\n<p>Once completed, the digital copy will be donated to the French government and will be featured in a future museum dedicated to the cathedral, which was reopened last year following restoration after the <a href=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/metropolitan-iosif-expresses-solidarity-with-french-people-and-catholic-church-following-notre-dame-fire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">devastating 2019 fire<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Following the Model of St. Peter\u2019s Basilica<\/h2>\n<p>Notre-Dame is not the first historical building to undergo such a digital transformation.
