His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church conveyed a message of spiritual encouragement and theological reflection to the participants of the 31st edition of the Pavleia International Scientific Congress, dedicated to the Holy Apostle Paul.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Pavleia Congress focuses on the theme \u201cApostle Paul and the First Ecumenical Council,\u201d which marks the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea (325).<\/p>\n

Patriarch Daniel highlighted the council\u2019s historical and doctrinal importance, noting that the Nicene Creed laid the foundation for Orthodox dogmatic teaching and affirmed the divinity of Christ as essential to human salvation.<\/p>\n

The Patriarch of Romania praised Saint Paul as a model of missionary zeal and theological depth, stressing his role in founding early Christian communities and articulating the mystery of the Incarnation and salvation in Christ.<\/p>\n

He called the congress \u201ca source of great spiritual joy for the entire Orthodox world\u201d and expressed hope that it would strengthen the commitment to preserving the Orthodox faith and the unity of the Church.<\/p>\n

In closing, Patriarch Daniel prayed for the congress’s success and encouraged future generations to emulate Saint Paul’s apostolic fervour in proclaiming the Gospel.<\/p>\n

Saint Apostle Paul and the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea (325)<\/h2>\n

With profound joy in Christ the Lord, we were invited to participate in the 31st edition of the International Scientific Congress \u201cPavleia,\u201d dedicated to Saint Paul the Apostle, the founder of the Metropolis of Veria, Naoussa, and Kampania.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s theme of the \u201cPavleia\u201d International Scientific Congress\u2014\u201cApostle Paul and the First Ecumenical Council\u201d\u2014is of great relevance, as the Holy Fathers of Nicaea formulated the first Creed of the Church in 325 within a synodal and solemn context. This Symbol of Faith became the foundation and reference point for all subsequent dogmatic decisions of the later Ecumenical Councils in opposition to heresies.<\/p>\n

The Holy Apostle Paul was the one who brilliantly and insightfully theologized about the life of the first Christian communities, some of which he personally founded, as well as about the mysteries of the Incarnation of the Son of God for our salvation and deification, and about the restoration of the gracious communion between humanity and the Most Holy Trinity through the Holy Spirit, in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour (2 Corinthians 13:13).<\/p>\n

The First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, held in the year 325, was not merely a doctrinal confrontation with the heresies of the time. It was also a fundamental and necessary step in the dogmatic formulation of the Orthodox faith and its confession as salvific truth, after three centuries of fierce persecutions and hostility toward Christians in the Roman Empire, and within a context marked by intense theological controversy.<\/p>\n

In the Nicene Creed, the Holy Fathers proclaimed that the purpose of the Incarnation of the eternal Son of God was the salvation of humankind: \u201cFor us men and for our salvation, He came down and was incarnate, was made man, suffered, and rose again on the third day, ascended into heaven, and will come again to judge the living and the dead.\u201d<\/p>\n

Salvation means the forgiveness of sins and the union of mankind with God, the Source of eternal life. Therefore, the Holy Fathers at Nicaea affirmed that if the Lord Jesus Christ is not fully God, then humanity cannot receive salvation or eternal life.<\/p>\n

The organisation of this \u201cPavleia\u201d International Scientific Congress on the theme \u201cApostle Paul and the First Ecumenical Council\u201d is a source of great spiritual joy for the entire Orthodox world.<\/p>\n

It is a significant event in 2025, in the context of the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea. This occasion will contribute to strengthening our responsibility to preserve the Orthodox faith and the unity of the Church of our Lord Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n

We pray to God that the Congress proceedings may bring rich and beneficial fruits for the Orthodox Church and that new generations of Christians may become zealous and faithful missionaries, like Saint Apostle Paul, to the glory of the Most Holy Trinity and for our salvation.<\/p>\n
