{"id":524526,"date":"2025-04-28T15:08:02","date_gmt":"2025-04-28T12:08:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=524526"},"modified":"2025-04-28T15:08:02","modified_gmt":"2025-04-28T12:08:02","slug":"romanian-orthodox-canada-8th-anniversary-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/romanian-orthodox-canada-8th-anniversary-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada to celebrate 8th anniversary with symposium and religious events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada invites faithful from across the diocese to participate in the Diocesan Anniversary Days, taking place from May 2 to May 4, marking eight years since its establishment (2017\u20132025).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The event highlights the steadfastness of Romanian Orthodoxy in Canada, while 2025 carries multiple significant anniversaries for the Orthodox faith and the Romanian Orthodox Church.<\/p>\n<p>This year marks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>100 years since the elevation of the Romanian Orthodox Church to the rank of Patriarchate;<\/li>\n<li>140 years since the recognition of Romanian Orthodox autocephaly;<\/li>\n<li>1700 years since the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in 325;<\/li>\n<li>2025 has also been declared the Commemorative Year of the Confessor Fathers from Communist Prisons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In this broader context, the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada aims to organize a series of spiritual, cultural, and liturgical events to reflect the continuity and confession of the Orthodox faith within the Romanian diaspora.<\/p>\n<h2>Program Overview<\/h2>\n<p>On May 3, at the Cathedral of Saint George and Saints Epictetus and Astion in Saint-Hubert, a symposium will be held on the theme: &#8220;The Orthodox Church Today \u2013 Local Responsibility and Inter-Christian Ecumenical Mission.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Speakers include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fr. Drago\u0219 Giulea, who will deliver a lecture on the significance of the Council of Nicaea;<\/li>\n<li>Denitsa Tzvetkova, who will discuss the conciliar decision regarding the date of Easter;<\/li>\n<li>Rev. Prof. John McGuckin, who will explore Nicaea\u2019s legacy as an ecumenical vision for contemporary Christian mission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Another important section of the symposium is dedicated to newly canonized Romanian saints:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fr. Nicolae Codrea will present on Saint Hilarion Felea;<\/li>\n<li>Protosyncellus Corneliu Andra\u0219co will speak about Saint Dometius the Merciful of R\u00e2me\u021b;<\/li>\n<li>Fr. Constantin Lupa\u0219cu will analyse the life of Saint Arsenius of Prislop, exploring the balance between myth, reality, and sanctity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additionally:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fr.
