This historic milestone will be marked with various events throughout the year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Essay Contest for Ukrainian Children<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The first event, a contest for children and youth from the Ukrainian community in Romania, will begin in February and run for three months in multiple stages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ukrainian children <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">are invited<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> to participate in an essay contest themed <\/span>\u201cHistory Through the Eyes of Grandparents.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cHistory Through the Eyes of Grandparents\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cIn Ukrainian communities in Maramure\u0219 and Banat, local testimonies about the perception of recent history are not being collected. This cultural-educational initiative will help young people connect with their roots and their own history,\u201d<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> explained Father Marius N. Lauruc, Counselor to the Ukrainian Orthodox Vicariate, in an interview with Basilica<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.ro<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A pilot project was previously held<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> at the <\/span>\u201cTaras Shevchenko\u201d Ukrainian High School<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> in Sighetu Marma\u021biei, where children were encouraged to set aside their phones, engage with the elderly, and learn <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">interesting<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> details about their community\u2019s history.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This year, the contest will be held at the vicariate level, involving students from Ukrainian communities <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">across the country<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The initiative will culminate in the publication of a volume featuring the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">essays written by the children<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Local History Symposium<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In June, the Ukrainian Orthodox Vicariate will organize an international symposium in <\/span>Sighetu Marma\u021biei dedicated to post-1990 history, the year when the institution was reestablished.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLocal historians and descendants of the vicars from the communist era\u2014when the vicariate was dissolved in 1952\u2014will participate,\u201d noted Father Lauruc.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe symposium will also present a history of the Ukrainian deaneries and the historic church of the Ukrainian community in C\u00e2mpulung la Tisa, which celebrates 225 years since its construction this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Other Projects<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Another initiative, supported by the Secretariat of State for Religious Affairs, involves publishing the Ukrainian version of the album <\/span>\u201cThe Ukrainian Orthodox Vicariate \u2013 30 Years Since Reestablishment,\u201d<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> previously released in Romanian and English by Paideia Publishing House.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">About the Ukrainian Orthodox Vicariate<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Approximately 80% of Ukrainians in Romania are Orthodox. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">For them, the <\/span>Romanian Patriarchate established a vicariate<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> where priests from the community conduct religious services in Ukrainian<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Led by Rev.
