{"id":512558,"date":"2025-01-14T14:43:11","date_gmt":"2025-01-14T12:43:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=512558"},"modified":"2025-01-14T14:43:44","modified_gmt":"2025-01-14T12:43:44","slug":"repentance-change-malevolent-mindset-bishop-ignatie-galway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/repentance-change-malevolent-mindset-bishop-ignatie-galway\/","title":{"rendered":"Repentance means changing our malevolent mindset, Bishop Ignatie explained to Romanians in Galway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>On Sunday, Bishop Ignatie of Hu\u0219i <a href=\"https:\/\/episcopiahusilor.ro\/ps-ignatie-vedem-oameni-care-se-chinuie-foarte-mult-pentru-ca-sunt-captivi-propriilor-lor-ganduri\">addressed<\/a> the Romanian Orthodox faithful in Galway, Ireland, explaining that true repentance involves transforming a sinful and malevolent mindset.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The bishop was in Galway after participating the previous day in the <a href=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/dublin-hosts-historic-enthronement-bishop-nectarie-takes-over-youngest-diocese-in-romanian-diaspora\/\">enthronement of Bishop Nectarie<\/a> as the new Bishop of Ireland and Iceland.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on the exhortation of St. John the Baptist, \u201cRepent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand,\u201d Bishop Ignatie emphasized that repentance begins with a change in mentality: \u201cSpiritual restoration starts in the mind, with our thoughts, and how our mentality is woven concerning our lives and spiritual path.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He explained further: \u201cTo repent means to change your sinful, malevolent mindset, because only in this way can we transform our lives, turn them toward what is good and beautiful, and ultimately, to the kingdom of God.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>The Power of Thoughts<\/h2>\n<p>His Grace highlighted the profound influence of human thoughts on shaping one\u2019s inner state and outlook on life: \u201cOppressive thoughts filled with fear and anxiety create a grim vision, while serene thoughts full of hope and kindness bring harmony and clarity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur lives are shaped by the thoughts that swarm in our minds. From these thoughts, we construct our perception of life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Ignatie warned of the dangers of negative thinking: \u201cIf our thoughts are negative, malicious, or sinful, they will shape our vision of life accordingly, leading to inner turmoil.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Conversely, he encouraged nurturing positive thoughts: \u201cIf our minds are filled with thoughts of light, joy, and peace, our lives will likewise be joyful and peaceful.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>The Captivity of the Mind<\/h2>\n<p>The bishop explained the mind\u2019s remarkable ability to construct its own realities, which can sometimes become prisons of illusion and misinterpretation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA thought, though baseless in reality, when perceived as true, can cause deep suffering. In such cases, it becomes incredibly difficult to distinguish between reality and mere projections of our imagination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe often see people who struggle because they are trapped in their own thoughts. It\u2019s very difficult to free someone from a thought that has no basis in reality but exists solely in their mind as an invention or illusion. We often fight against the illusions in our minds, treating them as real, even though they lack any foundation to certify their reality.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Freedom in Christ<\/h2>\n<p>Bishop Ignatie concluded by pointing to Christ as the liberator from the captivity of harmful thoughts:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChrist calls us to change our lives and our mentality. Every time we confess, we are making the decision to renounce our sinful mindset and strive to adopt the mind of Christ. And where do we discover Christ\u2019s way of thinking?
