Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens conveyed a heartfelt Christmas message<\/a> for 2024, emphasizing the significance of peace, solidarity, and spiritual life in the face of modern challenges. Drawing inspiration from the angelic hymn at the Nativity of the Lord\u2014“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace”<\/em>\u2014the Archbishop highlighted that Christ’s Nativity marks the beginning of humanity’s reconciliation with God and with one another.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A World Confronted by Evil<\/span><\/h3>\n

His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos referred to humanity’s suffering caused by conflicts, injustices, and indifference:<\/span><\/p>\n

“We witness with sorrow the bloodshed in various parts of the world, the unbearable calamity. Moreover, we experience evil in its everyday dimension: loneliness, indifference toward our fellow human beings, sadness, and a lack of meaning. The question sometimes becomes a cry: Why does evil exist in the world?”<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

He emphasized that the message of Christmas must serve as a call to action:<\/span><\/p>\n

“We must take action. We are called to be pioneers in every effort for peace, in social initiatives, in every noble human intention, in every act of charity. In the person of Christ, humanity becomes the recipient of an infinite gift.<\/span>“<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

A Call to Life in Christ<\/span><\/h3>\n

Archbishop Ieronymos underlined that true peace begins with humanity’s reconciliation with God:<\/span><\/p>\n

“Humanity can now exist free from selfishness, self-love, and aggressiveness. The path to reconciliation with our fellow human beings is open. In this perspective, the vision of global peace can be seen as the great and long-awaited fruit of Christmas<\/span>.”<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

He stressed the importance of prayer and spiritual life as the foundation of our actions:<\/span><\/p>\n

“The battle against evil in the world requires us to live according to the way of Christ.”<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

A Call for Solidarity and Prayer<\/span><\/h3>\n

In conclusion, Archbishop Ieronymos urged the faithful to unite in prayer and live their lives guided by the Holy Spirit:<\/span><\/p>\n
