His Grace joined the community at the chapel to mark the sixth anniversary of the consecration of the National Cathedral&#8217;s altar.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Reflecting on the Sunday Gospel about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=luke%2018&amp;version=NKJV\">dialogue between Jesus Christ and a rich young ruler<\/a>, Bishop Paisie explained that observing the commandments is merely the first step toward perfection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The commandments, he noted,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> &#8220;<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">should not be understood as a minimal limit that must not be exceeded but rather as an open path to perfection, whose core is love for God and f<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">or <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">others<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;T<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">he young ruler in the Gospel, despite having kept all the commandments, shows himself incapable of taking the next step <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">alone<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. To do so requires mature human freedom, symbolized by <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jesus&#8217;<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> words: <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If you want.<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> It also requires divine help through <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">grace<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, which will come if he responds to the call: <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Come, follow Me<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">!<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;T<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">he path to perfection requires maturity in self-giving, to which human freedom <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">is called<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Bishop Paisie explained that Christ shows the young ruler that the commandments are the primary condition for eternal <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">life,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> while renouncing all possessions and following the Lord is a proposal respecting freedom and emphasizing the fundamental relationship between freedom and Divine Law.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;T<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">he Holy Fathers say that to the extent we serve God, we are free, while to the extent we serve the law of sin, we remain enslaved,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8221; <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">His Grace said, adding that<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> &#8220;<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">the call to perfect love <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">is not reserved<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> for a select group<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">J<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">esus\u2019<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> command to <em>sell what you have and give to the poor<\/em><\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">,<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> along with the promise that <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">you will have treasure in heaven,<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> is addressed to everyone because it maximizes the commandment of love for <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">one\u2019s<\/span> <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">neighbour<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Similarly, the invitation to <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Come, follow Me<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> (Luke 18:22) is a new and concrete form of the commandment to love God<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;T<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">he path to perfection lies in following Christ after renouncing everything that might hold us back from this calling<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">His <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Grace<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> noted that the invitation is primarily addressed to those entrusted with a special mission by Christ, beginning with the 12 Apostles. Therefore, it <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">is said<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> that <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">the rich young man in <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">today\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Gospel was <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">actually<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> called<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> to apostleship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Bishop Paisie added that the dialogue between Jesus and the rich young ruler continues throughout history and remains relevant today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;T<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">he question, <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?<\/span><\/em> <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">arises<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> in every <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">person\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> heart, whether they admit it or not, and Christ the Lord, and He alone, is the One who can provide the true answer<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Six Years Since the Consecration of the National Cathedral Altar<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The conclusion of the service marked the sixth anniversary of the consecration of the altar of the National Cathedral.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Archimandrite Dionisie Constantin, a patriarchal counsellor within the Workshops of the Biblical and Orthodox Missionary Institute, reflected on the <a href=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/consecration-ceremony-of-romania-national-cathedral\/\">events of November 25, 2018,<\/a> as well as those leading up to it, starting with Patriarch Miron <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Cristea\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> initiative.
