The Romanian Government authorised a draft law<\/a> on November 14 that establishes the National Day of Religious Freedom and the Contribution of Faith Communities to Romanian Society. This day will be observed annually on May 16.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The draft law suggests organising cultural, religious, and educational events to respect religious freedom and the relationship between the state, religious denominations, and other faith-based organisations.<\/p>\n

Central and local authorities will have the opportunity to establish partnerships with religious associations and denominations to coordinate cultural and religious events during this event.<\/p>\n

In 2000, the Declaration of Religious Denominations for Romania’s Integration into the European Union and NATO was signed, and the date of May 16 is symbolic.<\/p>\n

The proposed law will be submitted to Parliament for ratification. Romania officially acknowledges 19 religious denominations.<\/p>\n
