{"id":502980,"date":"2024-11-01T12:24:45","date_gmt":"2024-11-01T10:24:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=502980"},"modified":"2024-11-01T12:24:45","modified_gmt":"2024-11-01T10:24:45","slug":"romanian-heroes-cross-in-slovenia-rededicated-following-restoration-efforts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/romanian-heroes-cross-in-slovenia-rededicated-following-restoration-efforts\/","title":{"rendered":"Romanian Heroes&#8217; Cross in Slovenia rededicated following restoration efforts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The memorial cross honouring Romanian Heroes in the Slovenian town of Miren-Kostanjevica, recently restored with support from the Romanian Embassy, was rededicated last Friday, October 25.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The monument, erected in 2010 in honour of soldiers from the Romanian 43rd Caransebe\u0219 Regiment who fell during World War I, was a joint project initiated by the Romanian Embassy and implemented with the collaboration of the local administrations in Caransebe\u0219 and Miren-Kostanjevica. Restoration efforts were deemed necessary due to severe weather significantly deteriorating the monument.<\/p>\n<p>The rededication service, led by Father Pavel Goreanu, the priest of the Romanian community in Ljubljana, was followed by a memorial prayer for the fallen Romanian soldiers and a flower-laying ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Numerous officials attended, including representatives from the Romanian Embassy in Slovenia, Romania\u2019s Ministry of National Defense, the Austrian and Slovak Embassies, and the City Halls of Caransebe\u0219 and Miren-Kostanjevica.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_502877\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-502877\" style=\"width: 890px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-502877 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/sfintire-de-troita-la-un-monument-al-eroilor-romani-din-slovenia-314097-890x592.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"890\" height=\"592\" srcset=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/sfintire-de-troita-la-un-monument-al-eroilor-romani-din-slovenia-314097-890x592.jpg 890w, https:\/\/basilica.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/sfintire-de-troita-la-un-monument-al-eroilor-romani-din-slovenia-314097-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/basilica.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/sfintire-de-troita-la-un-monument-al-eroilor-romani-din-slovenia-314097.jpg 1202w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 440px, (max-width: 768px) 354px, 890px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-502877\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Lumina Newspaper<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In recognition of the care given to military cemeteries in Slovenia, where Romanian soldiers are laid to rest, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel awarded several institutions the 2021 Commemorative Diploma with Medal, among them the Romanian Ministry of National Defense, the National Office for Heroes\u2019 Cult, and the Romanian Embassy in Slovenia.<\/p>\n<p>The religious and military ceremony concluded with a visit to the peace monument in Cerje.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_502879\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-502879\" style=\"width: 890px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-502879 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/sfintire-de-troita-la-un-monument-al-eroilor-romani-din-slovenia-314098-890x592.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"890\" height=\"592\" srcset=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/sfintire-de-troita-la-un-monument-al-eroilor-romani-din-slovenia-314098-890x592.jpg 890w, https:\/\/basilica.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/sfintire-de-troita-la-un-monument-al-eroilor-romani-din-slovenia-314098-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/basilica.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/sfintire-de-troita-la-un-monument-al-eroilor-romani-din-slovenia-314098.jpg 1202w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 440px, (max-width: 768px) 354px, 890px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-502879\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Lumina Newspaper<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Last week&#8217;s service is part of a broader program commemorating thousands of Romanian soldiers who fought on the Isonzo front in World War I and are buried in cemeteries across Slovenia.<\/p>\n<p>The program was initiated as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/tag\/commemorative-year-2021\/\">2021 Commemorative Year<\/a> of the Departed, emphasizing cemeteries&#8217; cultural and liturgical importance. To date, memorial services have been held for Romanian soldiers in 12 military cemeteries throughout Slovenia.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Romanian Army Day.
