Next week, His Beatitude Archbishop George, Archbishop of New Justiniana and All Cyprus, will visit Bucharest to participate in the celebrations of Saint Demetrius the New.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Archbishop George, who is visiting Romania for the first time as Primate of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus,\u00a0will bring an important gift for pilgrims: the revered relics of Saint Lazarus, known as the “friend of the Lord.”<\/p>\n

Archbishop George will attend the welcoming ceremony<\/a> for the holy relics on Thursday afternoon at the Patriarchal Hill, immediately following the “Way of the Saints” procession.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, during the feast of Saint Demetrius the New, the Archbishop of Cyprus will serve alongside His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of Romania.<\/p>\n

Archbishop George was elected as Archbishop of Cyprus in December 2022, following the passing of Archbishop Chrysostomos II. The Romanian Orthodox Church maintains close relations with the Church of Cyprus.<\/p>\n

In late August, a delegation from the Romanian Patriarchate travelled to Cyprus to bring the relics of Saint Cyprian from Bucharest’s Zl\u0103tari Church for a pilgrimage.<\/p>\n

The Orthodox Church of Cyprus, led by an Archbishop, has jurisdiction over the entire island of Cyprus and was granted autocephaly in 431 AD at the Third Ecumenical Council.<\/p>\n
