{"id":498023,"date":"2024-10-03T15:31:51","date_gmt":"2024-10-03T12:31:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=498023"},"modified":"2024-10-03T15:31:51","modified_gmt":"2024-10-03T12:31:51","slug":"romanian-orthodox-cathedral-in-canada-to-mark-20th-anniversary-since-first-liturgy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/romanian-orthodox-cathedral-in-canada-to-mark-20th-anniversary-since-first-liturgy\/","title":{"rendered":"Romanian Orthodox Cathedral in Canada to mark 20th anniversary since first liturgy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Romanian Orthodox Cathedral in Saint-Hubert, Canada, will celebrate its 20th anniversary this Sunday, October 6<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, marking<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> two decades since its first Divine Liturgy.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The anniversary program includes the hierarchical Divine Liturgy beginning at 10:00 AM (local time), followed by a fraternal agape meal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Romanian community served by<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> this holy place was formed in <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">2004,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> under the canonical jurisdiction of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of America and Canada, with His Eminence Nicolae Condrea, now Metropolitan of the Americas, as its first hierarch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The first liturgy in this<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> community, placed under the protection of Saint George the Great Martyr, was officiated on October 10, 2004. The current place of worship was purchased in 2008.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In 2016, at the Congress of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of the Two Americas, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">the establishment of<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> a Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada was proposed<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Following the approval of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, the first Congress of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada took place in 2017, and the first hierarch of the new diocese, His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian, was <a href=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/video-his-grace-ioan-casian-enthroned-as-romanian-orthodox-bishop-of-canada\/\">enthroned<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Diocesan Cathedral in Saint-Hubert, in the Canadian province of Quebec, is also protected by Saints Epictetus and <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Astion<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Its address <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">is<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a02000 Boul.
