On Sunday, the Patriarchal Electoral Church Council (PECC) of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church elected Metropolitan Daniel of Vidin as the new Patriarch of Bulgaria.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The enthronement takes place on Sunday at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Sofia.<\/p>\n

A total of 138 votes were recorded, of which 69 went to Metropolitan Daniel of Vidin, 66 to Metropolitan Gregory of Vratsa and 3 votes were annulled.<\/p>\n

Metropolitan Daniel of Vidin, with the lay name of Atanas Trendafilov Nikolov, was born in 1972.<\/p>\n

He entered the monastery at the age of 25 in 1997, taking the name Daniel. In 2002 he graduated in theology from Sofia University.<\/p>\n

Four years later, in 2006, he received the rank of archimandrite, and in 2008 he was ordained as bishop.<\/p>\n

In 2011, he was transferred as vicar bishop of the Bulgarian diocese of America, Canada and Australia, and then in 2018 he was elected Metropolitan of Vidin.<\/p>\n
