{"id":479454,"date":"2024-05-13T19:47:22","date_gmt":"2024-05-13T16:47:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=479454"},"modified":"2024-05-13T19:47:22","modified_gmt":"2024-05-13T16:47:22","slug":"romanian-diocese-proposes-18th-century-abbot-for-canonization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/romanian-diocese-proposes-18th-century-abbot-for-canonization\/","title":{"rendered":"Romanian diocese proposes 18th-century abbot for canonization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Synod of the Metropolis of Oltenia held a session on Bright Tuesday, May 7, during which it proposed a new monastic saint for canonization.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-enum=\"p4\" data-field=\" paragraph\">Meeting at Lainici Monastery in Gorj County, the hierarchs discussed the events dedicated to the canonization of Venerable Ioan, the first abbot of Hurezi Monastery, founded in 1690 by St. Constantine Br\u00e2ncoveanu, the Prince of Wallachia between 1688 and 1714.<\/p>\n<p>Venerable Ioan was originally from the Arge\u0219 area. He entered monasticism at Negru Vod\u0103 Monastery, where he eventually became a hieromonk and later abbot.<\/p>\n<p data-enum=\"p7\" data-field=\" paragraph\">In 1692, he was appointed abbot of Hurezi Monastery by St. Constantine.
