World Cancer Day is marked every 4 February as a global initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC<\/a>), the largest and oldest international cancer organisation. The 2022-2024 theme is \u201cClose the Care Gap\u201d, with an emphasis this year on the power of working together.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Every single one of us has the ability to make a difference, large or small, and together we can make real progress in reducing the global impact of cancer, according to UICC representatives.<\/p>\n

Each year, hundreds of activities and events take place around the world, gathering communities, organisations and individuals in schools, businesses, hospitals, marketplaces, parks, community halls, places of worship – in the streets and online – acting as a powerful reminder that we all have a role to play in reducing the global impact of cancer.<\/p>\n

By raising worldwide awareness, improving education and catalysing personal, collective and government action, we are all working together to reimagine a world where millions of preventable cancer deaths are saved.<\/p>\n

World Cancer Research Fund International estimates more than 18 million cancer cases worldwide annually. Almost 775,000 cancer deaths occurred only in the first month of this year, according to the Worldometers platform.<\/p>\n
