In 2008, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution officially recognizing June 8 to be \u201cWorld Oceans Day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the Day is to inform the public of the impact of human actions on the ocean, develop a worldwide movement of citizens for the ocean, and mobilize and unite the world\u2019s population on a project for the sustainable management of the world\u2019s oceans.<\/p>\n<p>The Orthodox Church urges the protection and preservation of nature as a gift of God: \u201cDo not harm the earth, nor the sea, nor the trees!\u201d (Revelation 7: 3).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe entire creation is made for sanctification and blessing.
