{"id":330274,"date":"2021-08-19T16:19:42","date_gmt":"2021-08-19T13:19:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=330274"},"modified":"2021-08-19T16:36:42","modified_gmt":"2021-08-19T13:36:42","slug":"suceava-archdiocese-reestablishes-manastioara-udesti-skete-that-traces-to-st-stephen-the-great","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/suceava-archdiocese-reestablishes-manastioara-udesti-skete-that-traces-to-st-stephen-the-great\/","title":{"rendered":"Suceava Archdiocese reestablishes\u00a0M\u0103n\u0103stioara \u2013 Ude\u0219ti skete that traces to St Stephen the Great"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"os\" data-enum=\"p3\" data-field=\" paragraph\"><strong>The Archdiocese of Suceava and R\u0103d\u0103u\u021bi has reestablished a hermitage that goes back to the times of St. Stephen the Great, the 15th-century ruler of Moldavia and one of the most beloved saints of the Romanian Orthodox Church.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"os\" data-enum=\"p4\" data-field=\" paragraph\">The Suceava and R\u0103d\u0103u\u021bi Archdiocesan Council made the decision on August 11.<\/p>\n<p class=\"os\" data-enum=\"p4\" data-field=\" paragraph\">The hermitage is situated in the Ude\u0219ti township&#8217;s village of M\u0103n\u0103stioara (Suceava County) and it will be under the auspices of St. John the New Monastery in Suceava, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arhiepiscopiasucevei.ro\/schitul-manastioara-udesti-a-fost-reinfiintat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">diocese reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"os\" data-enum=\"p5\" data-field=\" paragraph\">According to tradition, the wooden church that developed into the hermitage was built by order of St. Stephen the Great after the tragedy of his father\u2019s murder.<\/p>\n<p class=\"os\" data-enum=\"p6\" data-field=\" paragraph\">In October 1451, St. Stephen and his father Bogdan II were at a wedding in the village of Reuseni, Suceava, when Bogdan\u2019s brother Petru Aron, who ruled Moldavia at that time, stormed in and decapitated Bogdan.
