{"id":261933,"date":"2019-11-28T18:16:44","date_gmt":"2019-11-28T16:16:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=261933"},"modified":"2019-11-28T18:16:44","modified_gmt":"2019-11-28T16:16:44","slug":"homeless-elderly-accept-hosting-offer-following-archbishops-visit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/homeless-elderly-accept-hosting-offer-following-archbishops-visit\/","title":{"rendered":"Homeless elderly accept hosting offer following Archbishop\u2019s visit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A happy ending for the elderly homeless couple that moved the Greek society. 83-year-old Philippos and his 84-year-old wife Eleni accepted the offer by the Municipality of Athens to temporarily move to a hostel for homeless people in the city center.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Their decision to abandon their much beloved independence followed a visit by the Archbishop of Athens, Ieronymus, last Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The head of the Orthodox Church in Greece <a href=\"https:\/\/www.keeptalkinggreece.com\/2019\/11\/28\/homeless-elderly-athens-archbishop\/\">promised<\/a> the couple to come up for their rent, utility bills and other expenses on monthly basis. Archbishop Ieronymus will pay the expenses from his own money, media reported.<\/p>\n<p>The elderly couple spent more than 40 days in the courtyard of Agios Georgios Church in Keramikos district of Athens, following eviction from the apartment they rented due to debts.<\/p>\n<p>They\u00a0refused the hosting offer\u00a0by the social services of the Athens Municipality insisting they wanted to live in an apartment of their own.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, Archibishop Ieronymos was able to convince them about the need to stay in a shelter until they find a new home.<\/p>\n<p>Last night, Philippos and Eleni moved to the municipality hotel, ANT1 TV reported on Thursday noon.<\/p>\n<p>Photo courtesy of KTG.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A happy ending for the elderly homeless couple that moved the Greek society. 83-year-old Philippos and his 84-year-old wife Eleni accepted the offer by the Municipality of Athens to temporarily move to a hostel for homeless people in the city center.
