{"id":245379,"date":"2019-07-17T16:08:27","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T13:08:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=245379"},"modified":"2019-07-17T16:08:27","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T13:08:27","slug":"relics-of-st-nephon-the-patriarch-of-constantinople-moved-to-new-silver-reliquary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/en\/relics-of-st-nephon-the-patriarch-of-constantinople-moved-to-new-silver-reliquary\/","title":{"rendered":"Relics of St Nephon the Patriarch of Constantinople moved to new silver reliquary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Honourable Head and the right hand of Saint Nephon II the Patriarch of Constantinople, which are kept at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Craiova, were moved to a new silver reliquary last Sunday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The new reliquary was blessed by His Eminence Metropolitan Irineu of Craiova on July 14 following the Divine Liturgy.<\/p>\n<p>St Nephon\u2019s holy relics have been displayed for veneration at St Demetrius Orthodox Cathedral in Craiova since 1949.<\/p>\n<p>Saint Nephon was born in the Peloponesse peninsula in southern Greece in the fifteenth century.<\/p>\n<p>He was Patriarch of Constantinople three times: from 1486 to 1488, from 1497 to 1498 and for a short time in 1502.<\/p>\n<p>From 1498 to 1505 he was Metropolitan of Wallachia during the reign of Prince Radu IV the Great.<\/p>\n<p>He reposed in 1508 and was glorified in 1517 during the reign of his spiritual son, St Neagoe Basarab.
