At the invitation of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the Synaxis of Primates of the Orthodox Autocephalous Churches took place at the Orthodox Center of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Chamb\u00e9sy, Geneva, from 21st to 28th January, 2016. The following Primates attended:<\/p>\n

The following Primates were unable to attend: Their Beatitudes Patriarch John X of Antioch and Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw and All Poland, for health reasons, and Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, for personal reasons. Nevertheless, all three were represented by official delegations of their Churches.<\/p>\n

The Primates of the Orthodox Churches convened to finalize the texts for the Holy and Great Council. In the framework of the Synaxis, on Sunday, 24th January, a Divine Liturgy was held at the Holy Stavropegic Church of St. Paul. Along with the Ecumenical Patriarch, who presided, Their Beatitudes and Heads of the delegations of the Orthodox Churches concelebrated the Liturgy, with the exception of the Head of the delegation of the Patriarchate of Antioch.<\/p>\n

During the Synaxis, whose sessions were held in the apostolic spirit of \u201cspeaking the truth in love\u201d (Eph. 4.15), in concord and understanding, the Primates affirmed their decision to convene the Holy and Great Council. The Council will be held at the Orthodox Academy of Crete from June 16th to 27th, 2016. To this end, the Primates humbly invoke the grace and blessing of the Holy Trinity and fervently invite the prayers of the fullness of the Church, clergy and laity, for the period leading to and the sessions of the Holy and Great Council.<\/p>\n

The items officially approved for referral to and adoption by the Holy and Great Council are: The Mission of the Orthodox Church in the Contemporary World, The Orthodox Diaspora, Autonomy and its Manner of Proclamation, The Sacrament of Marriage and its Impediments, The Significance of Fasting and its Application Today, and Relations of the Orthodox Church with the Rest of the Christian World. By decision of the Primates, all approved documents will be published.<\/p>\n

The Primates also discussed and determined the establishment of a Panorthodox Secretariat, the by-laws of the Council, the participation of non-Orthodox observers in the opening and closing sessions, and the budgetary costs related the Council.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the Primates expressed their support for the persecuted Christians of the Middle East and their ongoing concern for the abduction of the two Metropolitans, Paul Yazigi of the Patriarchate of Antioch and Gregorios Yohanna Ibrahim of the Syriac Archdiocese.<\/p>\n

A l\u2019invitation de Sa Saintet\u00e9, le Patriarche \u0153cum\u00e9nique Bartholomaios, a eu lieu la Synaxe des Primats des Eglises Orthodoxes autoc\u00e9phales au Centre Orthodoxe du Patriarcat \u0153cum\u00e9nique \u00e0 Chamb\u00e9sy-Gen\u00e8ve du 21 au 28 janvier 2016. Les Primats des Eglises Orthodoxes se sont r\u00e9unis pour d\u00e9finir les th\u00e8mes du Saint et Grand Concile. Dans le cadre de la Synaxe, le dimanche le 24 janvier a eu lieu une conc\u00e9l\u00e9bration en l\u2019\u00e9glise stavrop\u00e9giaque de Saint Paul, pr\u00e9sid\u00e9e par le Patriarche \u0153cum\u00e9nique en conc\u00e9l\u00e9bration de Leurs B\u00e9atitudes, les Primats, ainsi que les chefs des d\u00e9l\u00e9gations des Eglises Orthodoxes, \u00e0 l\u2019exception du chef de la d\u00e9l\u00e9gation de la Sainte Eglise d\u2019Antioche.<\/p>\n

Pendant la Synaxe, les sessions se sont d\u00e9roul\u00e9es, selon la parole apostolique \u00abprofessant la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 dans la charit\u00e9\u2019 (Eph.4, 15), dans un esprit de concorde et de compr\u00e9hension, les Primats ont affirm\u00e9 leur engagement pour la convocation du Saint et Grand Concile. Ceci aura lieu \u00e0 l\u2019Acad\u00e9mie Orthodoxe de Cr\u00e8te du 16 au 27 juin 2016. Dans ce but, les Primats invoquent humblement la gr\u00e2ce et la b\u00e9n\u00e9diction du Dieu trinitaire et demandent les pri\u00e8res ferventes du pl\u00e9r\u00f4me de l\u2019Eglise, du clerg\u00e9 et des la\u00efcs, lors de la p\u00e9riode qui m\u00e8ne vers le Saint et Grand Concile, ainsi que pendant la dur\u00e9e de ses sessions.<\/p>\n

Les th\u00e8mes ratifi\u00e9s officiellement et soumis au Saint et Grand Concile afin d\u2019\u00eatre adopt\u00e9s sont les suivants : La mission de l\u2019Eglise orthodoxe dans le monde contemporain, La Diaspora orthodoxe, L\u2019autonomie et la mani\u00e8re dont elle doit \u00eatre proclam\u00e9e, Le sacrement du mariage et ses emp\u00eachements, L\u2019importance du je\u00fbne et son observance aujourd\u2019hui, Les Relations des Eglises Orthodoxes avec l\u2019ensemble du monde chr\u00e9tien. Par la d\u00e9cision des Primats, tous les textes approuv\u00e9s seront publi\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

Les Primats ont d\u00e9cid\u00e9 la constitution d\u2019un secr\u00e9tariat panorthodoxe, le r\u00e8glement et le fonctionnement du Concile, la participation d\u2019observateurs h\u00e9t\u00e9rodoxes lors des sessions de l\u2019ouverture et de cl\u00f4ture, et l\u2019\u00e9valuation des frais.<\/p>\n
