Friday, 7 November 2014, the special meeting of the Metropolitan Synod of the Metropolitanate of Banat for consulting the extended Eparchial Assembly of the Archdiocese of Timisoara was held at the Metropolitanate of Timisoara, under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, Archbishop locum tenens of Timisoara and Metropolitan of Banat, in view of appointing the candidates eligible for the dignity of Archbishop of Timisoara and Metropolitan of Banat. <\/p>\n
Besides the hierarchs of the Metropolitan Synod, the members of the Eparchial Assembly of the Archdiocese of Timisoara, the clergy and lay members of the Archdiocese of Arad and Diocese of Caransebes, delegates of the Church National Assembly, the dean of the Faculty of Theology of \u201cIlarion Felea\u201d of Arad, and the director of the Theological Seminary of \u201cIoan Popasu\u201d of Caransebes were also present.<\/p>\n
To start with the meeting, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, Archbishop locum tenens of Timisoara and Metropolitan of Banat, presented the pastoral needs of the Metropolitanate of Banat and the list of the two hierarchs eligible for the dignity of Archbishop of Timisoara and Metropolitan of Banat, established by the Metropolitan Synod of the Metropolitanate of Banat, during its working session of 6 November 2014. <\/p>\n
Then, His Beatitude asked, through open vote, the opinion of the Eparchial Assembly and of the delegates about the list of the names of the two candidates or completing it with one more candidate from among the hierarchs eligible (article 129, chapter 4 of the Statutes for the organisation and functioning of the Romanian Orthodox Church).<\/p>\n
Following this consultation, the eparchial extended Assembly decided, through open vote, the motivated completion of the list of the two eligible candidates established by the Metropolitan Synod of the Metropolitanate of Banat with one more candidate from the list of the hierarchs eligible approved and communicated by the Patriarch of Romania. <\/p>\n
According to the statutory provisions the secret ballot was organised and the name of His Eminence Archbishop Ioan Selejan, Bishop of Covasna and Harghita was added to the list of the two candidates eligible drafted by the Metropolitan Synod.<\/p>\n
The list of the candidates eligible for the dignity of Archbishop of Timisoara and Metropolitan of Banat, in the dyptics order, drafted by the Metropolitan Synod of the Metropolitanate of Banat and completed by the eparchial extended Assembly of the Archdiocese of Timisoara consists of: <\/p>\n
1.His Eminence hon. Archbishop Ioan Selejan, Bishop of Covasna and Harghita <\/p>\n
2.His Grace Dr Lucian Mic, Bishop of Caransebes <\/p>\n
3.His Grace Dr. Sofronie Drincec, Bishop of Oradea<\/p>\n
This list will be communicated to the Holy Synod in view of electing the future metropolitan of Banat. <\/p>\n
