Speaker of Georgian Parliament visits St Anthimos Monastery in Bucharest

As part of his official visit to Romania, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, visited St Anthimos Monastery in Bucharest on Wednesday, when the Romanian Orthodox Church celebrates the feast of St Anthimos the Iberian.

Patriarchal auxiliary Bishop Varlaam Ploieșteanul and Abbot Vicentiu Oboroceanu welcomed the delegation, including the Ambassador of Georgia to Bucharest, Tamar Beruchashvili.

Bishop Varlaam presented the church of the monastic settlement, offering the guests several albums about the monastery’s history. The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia presented the Romanian hierarch with an icon of Saint Tamara, Queen of Georgia.

“It is a great honour for me to be present at liturgy devoted today to Saint Anthimos the Iberian, a person who formed a spiritual connection between Romania and the Georgian people, and this spiritual connection translated in modern times into a strategic partnership between our countries,” His Excellency Shalva Papuashvili said.

“So, during our visit of the parliamentary delegation to Romania, we had meetings in the parliament with the prime minister and the minister of foreign affairs, and we felt the spirit which connects these two nations with each other.”

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia said it was an honour to witness that a person from Georgia was embraced in Romania. He also expressed his joy that this spiritual connection between the two nations exists.

The members of the Georgian delegation participated in the Divine Liturgy celebrated on the occasion of the patronal feast of the monastic establishment, Saint Anthimos the Iberian.
