Metropolitan Serafim of the Romanian Metropolis of Germany and his assistant bishop Sofian of Brașov were part of a delegation of the Romanian community in Bavaria invited to the residence of Bavarian Minister President Dr Markus Söder.
Her Excellency Adriana-Loreta Stănescu, the Romanian Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, accompanied the Romanians to the meeting held in the Prinz-Carl-Palast in Munich.
Representatives of ethnic communities with links to Romania, especially the Transylvanian Saxons and the Swabians from Banat, also participated in the luncheon hosted by the Bavarian Prime Minister to facilitate networking and sharing information on February 9.
The delegation also contributed to the planning of Prime Minister Markus Soder’s trip to Bucharest, where he met with President Klaus Werner Iohannis and Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă.
“We had the opportunity to present our efforts and achievements and the difficulties we encountered. Furthermore, we were happy to meet in this framework with the other delegation members,” Assistant Bishop Sofian of Brașov wrote on his Facebook page.
“His Excellency Markus Soder concluded the meeting by noting that all Romanians residing in Bavaria, including Transylvanian Saxons and Banat Swabians, contribute to the well-being of this state through our efforts, and that we would be pleased to receive the full support of its officials,” the Romanian bishop also noted.
“At the end, we thanked HE Markus Söder for the honour of being received in this setting, as well as Ambassador Adriana-Loreta Stănescu and acting head of the Consulate in Munich Janette Carabaşu for organising the meeting,” Bp Sofian wrote.
Over 300,000 Romanians reside and work in Bavaria, Germany. A significant percentage of them are Orthodox Christians and belong to one of the more than 40 parishes that comprise the Orthodox Metropolis of Germany, Central and Northern Europe.
