Bucharest theology professors, students prayerfully remember Fr Dumitru Stăniloae on 30th anniversary of his repose

The renowned Romanian theologian Father Dumitru Stăniloae was commemorated Thursday at the “St. Catherine” Chapel of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Bucharest 30 years after his blessed repose.

The memorial service was officiated by Rev. Professor Emeritus Stefan Buchiu, together with other professors of the Faculty of Theology in Bucharest.

The former dean of the Faculty, Fr Ștefan Buchiu, evoked the personality of Father Dumitru Stăniloae: “Father Professor is present among us through his work, through his spirit, which he transmitted to his disciples and to all those who knew him and who follow his path of theology.”

Fr. Ștefan Buchiu urged the students to deepen the work of Father Stăniloae because “it is of a topicality specific to Orthodoxy, namely, it is related to the Word of the Gospel, to the Word of discovery that was fulfilled in the Saviour Jesus Christ”.

“Secondly, his theology is nourished by the mind of the Holy Fathers, who are the best commentators of the Holy Scriptures, but also those who fulfilled in their lives the message of the Gospel.”

“We all have the duty, especially those of us who study here, in the faculty where he taught theology for four decades, to follow his example, to love the Holy Fathers, to always return and remain faithful to our revealed faith even more chosen as sons of the Church to take seriously the service that today we must bring to all people,” Rev. Ștefan Buchiu urged the theology students.

Father Dumitru Stăniloae was a professor at the Faculty of Theology in Bucharest from 1947 until the end of his earthly life.
