May 1887 – Priest and pedagogue SIMION POPESCU-LILIACOVEANU was born in
Floru, county of Olt. Studies at the “Central” Seminary (1900 – 1908).
Faculty of Theology of Bucharest (1908 – 1912) and specialised courses
at the National Capodistrian University of Athens (1918 – 1921), where
he graduates Theology (1920) and Philology-Philosophy (1919), doctor in
theology (1923); priest at the church of “Saint Nicolae-Sârbi” (since
February 1913), secretary of the Faculty of Theology (1 April 1913 – 1
March 1924), professor of Religion at “Marica Brâncoveanu” Secondary
School (1926 – 1928), at the Normal School of “Gh. And M. Filipescu”
(1927 – 1929) and at the “Gheorghe Șincai” Secondary School (1928 –
1940) of Bucharest; member of the metropolitan consistory of Bucharest
(1938-1944).
Works: Origen (1923, thesis for a doctor’s degree
in manuscript); Origin of the church hierarchy. Archaeological –
exegetic study (1920); Muratori Canon (1920), Apocryphal Gospels (1922)¸
Relations of our Church with the Patriarchate of Constantinople (1932);
Calendric study on seven planets (1935), Saint Peter the Apostle was
not a Bishop in Rome (1940). He passed away in December 1944, in
Bucharest.
