April 1825 – Archimandrite SCRIBAN THEOCTIST (baptised Hristofor) was

born in Adâncata village, county of Suceava. Studies at “Vasilian”

Gymnasium and Mihailean Academy of Iași, theological studies at Socola

Seminary (graduated in 1874), then at the Spiritual Academy of Kiev

(1847 – 1851). Professor at Socola Seminary (1851 – 1857), tonsured into

monasticism and ordained hieromonk (1856), awarded the title of

archimandrite (1857), president of the new Eparchial Consistory of

Ismail (1857 – 1863); professor at the “Central” Seminary of Bucharest

(1864 – 1872), retired, then, for a short while, Director of Socola

Seminary (1884 – 1885).

Works: He published didactic manuals,

adapted or translated. He translated from Russian: Homiletics by Iacob

Amfiteatrov (2 volumes, 1856 – 1858) and other works; he published the

book “Church sermons on Sundays, feasts and funerals” (1867); from 1870 –

1872 he edited the “Church Voice” magazine in Bucharest, in which he

published many sermons, most of them translated from St. Gregory the

Theologian (some of them published in a brochure). He passed away on 11

January 1890, in Iasi.
