The initial stages of a humanitarian project funded by the Romanian Patriarchate and carried out in partnership with Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been completed in the Gaza Strip, where 1,200 people have received hot meals.
The humanitarian initiative is organised by the Embassy of Romania in Tel Aviv, with support from Samaritan’s Purse and the Palestinian Bible Society, and is being implemented in Gaza City and the surrounding regions.
According to a post published on the Romanian Embassy in Israel’s official Facebook page, “three major hot meal distribution sessions have been organised so far, providing direct assistance to 1,200 people sheltered in local churches and a nursing home in Gaza City.”
Representatives of the Romanian diplomatic mission said the humanitarian operation is continuing and that “the team is currently procuring and preparing school supply kits for children.”
“Our mission to bring hope, dignity, and practical assistance to those who are suffering continues,” the Embassy of Romania in Israel stated.
Supporting Gaza’s Christian community
In June, the Romanian Patriarchate and Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the launch of the Gaza Christians Aid Package, allocating €50,000 to support the Christian community in the Gaza Strip and other people facing severe humanitarian hardship.
Running from June to December 2026, the project supplies food, medicines, and other essential items through four main components.
- The distribution of approximately 2,400 hot meals;
- The purchase of 200 backpacks equipped with school supplies for children;
- The provision of essential medicines and hygiene kits for vulnerable people;
- The distribution of 10 large potable water tanks.
The project is being carried out under the coordination of the Embassy of Romania in Israel, in collaboration with the humanitarian organisation Samaritan’s Purse, ensuring that the financial support provided by the Romanian Patriarchate is quickly transformed into direct assistance for civilians affected by the conflict.
