Metropolitan Nicolae of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolis of the Americas officiated last week the blessing service for the cornerstone of a new Romanian cathedral in Olmsted Township, Ohio.
The service was also attended by Fr. Călin Barbolovici, Dean of the Central USA Deanery and parish priest of the “Holy Trinity” Romanian Orthodox Church in Troy, Michigan.
“The blessing service and laying of the cornerstone was a moment of great joy felt by all the faithful,” said Fr. Petru Neaga, parish priest of the “Annunciation” Cathedral in Olmsted Township.
Fr. Neaga also emphasized the significance of beginning the cathedral’s construction during the Centennial Year of the Romanian Patriarchate.
“We are glad to mark the beginning of this new church in 2025, the year in which the Romanian Orthodox Church celebrates 100 years since being elevated to the rank of Patriarchate. We pray that these 100 years—and all that will follow until the end of time—may be for the glory of God and the salvation of the Romanian people,” the priest added.
The cornerstone blessing was celebrated last Tuesday, on the Feast of the Annunciation.
